Please tell us more about your Archer Fellowship Program internship.
Durning the fall 2014 semester, I served as a White House intern the Domestic Policy Council's Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation. In this role, I supported the day-to-day activities of the special assistant to the president and assisted the policy team with research pertaining to public-private partnerships, social innovation, civic technology, and democracy expansion efforts.
What has been your general career path?
Since graduating from the Archer Fellowship and The University of Texas at San Antonio, I served as the New Politics Forum program coordinator at the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life at The University of Texas at Austin, as the executive director of MOVE Texas, and now as the founder and executive director at BRIDGE. I'm passionate about civic engagement, democracy innovation, nonprofit management and design, and movement building.
How has your experience as an Archer Fellow influenced your career path and goals?
While I had ten-year career in the wine industry prior to shifting to the civic engagement nonprofit sector, the Archer Fellowship was transformational to my journey as an executive director. From my experiences at The White House to the community of lifelong friends, the Archer Fellowship launched my career in civic engagement.
What did you value the most about your Archer Fellowship Program experience?
Building relationships with my fellow classmates is by far the most valuable aspect of my Archer Fellowship experience! The people I met during this time in my life have been influential and impactful ever since.
What do you value the most about being an alumnus?
I love the Archer Fellow Alumni Association! I was proud to serve as president and fundraising chair as well as my participation in the Friends of the Archer Center Trust. Everywhere you go in Texas and in Washington, D.C., you are never far from an Archer Fellow.
What is your favorite memory as an Archer Fellow?
Attending the 20th anniversary of AmeriCorps with President Obama and President Clinton as a White House Intern! What an incredible day!
