Q & A with Annie
Please tell us more about your Archer Fellowship Program internship.
I had a variety of responsibilities including: research, health policy analysis, event planning and execution, web page updates and some administrative duties. I worked closely with experienced policy professionals, congressional staffers, administrators, and other members of the health policy community, and I was able to see the ins and outs of health policy development.
What has been your general career path?
I pursued pharmacy school, in which I am still enrolled, immediately following my undergraduate degree.
How has your experience as an Archer Fellow influenced your career path and goals?
The Archer Fellowship Program set my foundation in the world of health policy and politics. Going into pharmacy school, I knew that I wanted to continue to be involved in health advocacy and policy. And because of my Archer Fellowship experience and education, I have been able to positively impact pharmacy policy and push for improved health policies, while understanding the nuances of enacting change.
What did you value the most about your Archer Fellowship experience?
The best part about my Archer Fellowship Program experience was the friendships I made throughout my time in D.C. My cohort was like my family away from home, and I made some of my closest and most treasured friendships through the Archer Fellowship Program. They were there for me during the good and the bad, and I am so thankful for those relationships every day.
What do you value the most about being an alumna?
I love that the Archer Center and various chapter leaders work so hard to connect Archer Fellows despite the breadth of cities (and countries) that they reside in. I know that I can always turn to the Archer Center for any advice and help, and it's been incredible meeting other Archer Fellow alumni as I move.
What is your favorite memory as an Archer Fellow?
One of my favorite memories was reading and studying on the Supreme Court grounds. That is an experience that I will forever cherish. My cohort were the last ones to live near the Supreme Court, and I remember being in awe of our proximity to the Supreme Court and the Capitol. When I had free time, I would just wander around the grounds of the Supreme Court and pick a spot to do work, read or just relax.
