2009 Seminar will be held May 24-29, 2009

Sunday – May 24 Check into Lodging (between 4pm and 6pm) and Welcome Event

Monday – May 25 Memorial Day! See the sights of Washington, D.C. and meet DC Texas Exes

Tuesday – May 26 Business panel, Networking Lunch and Arts, Culture and Non-Profit panel

Wednesday – May 27 Policymaking panel, Communications panel and Networking Reception

Thursday – May 28 Legal panel, Capitol Tour, DC Wrap-up Session

Friday – May 29 Check out of Lodging and Additional Sightseeing

What is Welcome to the Beltway?

Welcome to the Beltway is a program based on the Hollywood Seminar concept, a program run by the LA Texas Exes to introduce undergraduates from the College of Communication at UT Austin to media industry. In May 2004, the Archer Center partnered with the University of Texas at Austin Colleges of Communication and Liberal Arts, the D.C. Texas Exes, and the Washington Area LBJ Alumni Organization to launch its own version: the Welcome to the Beltway Seminar.

In this 5-day crash course in D.C., participants meet and mingle with professionals in D.C. to learn about careers in Washington, D.C. Over the visit, the students meet with White House and Federal Agency staff, Congressional staff, senior policy analysts, seasoned political journalists for newspapers and magazines, campaign strategists and many others.

The 2009 seminar is open to all UT System undergraduate and graduate students.
