Rabea Benhalim, UT Dallas

Government & Politics/Literary Studies

Rabea is an Academic Excellent Scholar at UT Dallas with a double major in Government & Politics and Literary Studies. At UTD, she has already become a highly involved student and serves as chairperson of the Academic Affairs Committee and as a Senator on the Executive Committee with the Student Government Association. Additionally, she also serves as the Vice Chair for Multicultural and Minority Affairs for the UT System Student Advisory Council.

Vanessa Bilanceri, UT Austin

Public Relations & Government

Vanessa is an active member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at both the chapter and national level. She currently holds the position of National Vice President of Professional Development where she is responsible for providing information and advice on student-run firms and student-professional interaction to the chapters. She is a Ralph E. Frede Endowed Scholar in Public Relations and a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Elizabeth Austin Bonner, UT Austin

Plan II Honors Program/Government

Austin is a sophomore pursuing a double major in Plan II and Government. She is a museum aide at the French Legation Museum in Austin as well as a freelance writer for the Austin American-Statesman. She was chosen to participate in the Rapoport Service Scholarship program which allowed her to spend the summer volunteering and learning about the academic foundations of public service.

Jeremy Goldberg, UT Austin

Journalism & Government

Jeremy is a junior who has been active in multiple organizations throughout his college career. He has served as part of the research team and the events coordinator for the University of Texas Multicultural Information Center. During the summer of 2001, Jeremy served as a White House intern in the National Drug Control Policy Office. He researched and presented a project that would bring drug education programs to particular museums throughout the country. Since his presentation, the office has picked up the project and so far these exhibits have been planned for three of the specified museums.

Vanya Gonzalez, UT El Paso

Electronic Media

Vanya is a senior who has been extremely active in broadcast and radio journalism endeavors at the University of Texas at El Paso. She has served as an intern for the KINTV Univision station in El Paso where she worked in the news division, monitoring incoming stories and writing scripts for upcoming shows. Additionally, she also worked as a news reporter for the KTEP National Public Radio Station for the Southwest.

Richa Gulati, UT Austin

Plan II Honors Program

Richa is a senior in Plan II with ambitions to serve in the public sector. She is a Truman Scholar and was named the University of Texas Parents’ Association Outstanding Student in the Fall of 2001. Her senior thesis, “Una Noche Flamenca,” is an interpretive dance performance exploring the Indian, Middle Eastern, and Rrom gypsy roots of modern Flamenco dance. Richa is also a member of the Orange Jackets, an organization of the top women leaders from across the campus.

Nakiya Jones, UT Austin

Journalism/Government

Nakiya is a junior who hopes to use the Bill Archer Fellow Program to learn about her areas of interest, journalism and law, and begin to make contacts in Washington, DC as she gets closer to graduate school and her career. Nakiya is a self starter who has had extensive experience in local government posts, legal environments, and the media. She is a Ron Brown Scholar and a Terry Scholar.

Matt Maggard, UT Dallas

Business Administration

Matt is a business major with interests in history, literature, and music. He has been instrumental in bringing back the College Quiz Bowl team back to UTD, inspiring interest in students and getting appropriate faculty involved as sponsors. Matt has been an active participant in his moot Supreme Court course playing the part of a Supreme Court Justice.

Stephanie Montgomery, UT Austin

Public Relations

Stephanie Montgomery is a junior in public relations with an outstanding academic record. She has worked as a marketing and public relations intern at Steel Digital Studios in Austin, TX and as a media relations intern at McDonald Public Relations, Inc. also in Austin, TX. She was an active member of the Freshman Leadership Organization as a freshman and an officer and mentor as a sophomore. She was selected to the Torchlight Society, an elite, social women’s group.

Jesse Moore, UT Austin

Plan II Honors Program

Jesse is a National Merit Scholar, holds University Honors, and has been named to the Dean’s List. He is involved with the UT Quiz Bowl and interned with the District Office of Congressman Lloyd Doggett. He is pursuing a challenging academic course by combining the Plan II Honors Program with concentrations in History, Government, and Classics.

Edgar Morales, UT Austin

Government

As an Archer Fellow, Edgar interned at the Washington Office on Latin America. He is a sophomore studying Government at UT Austin.

Fernando Moreno, UT El Paso

Electronic Media

Fernando is a senior who has served many roles in the student-initiated Cotton Productions at the University of Texas at El Paso. He has worked as an assistant camera operator and producer where he helped improved the weekly Miner Sport Show. Additionally, he worked as a producer and director for I Film, therefore I am Productions in Chihuahua, Mexico, his hometown. He has worked continuously while taking classes in Electronic Media and is particularly interested in the power of the image.

Marisela Salayandia, UT Austin

Corporate Communications & Spanish

Marisela is currently working as a Senate Messenger Coordinator Assistant for the Texas Senate after serving for a year as a Senate Messenger. In high school, she was recognized in Who’s Who Among America’s High School Students and has been a Dean’s List member while at UT. She is a member of Kappa Delta Chi and The University of Texas’ Hispanic Journalists.

Adam Swaim, UT Dallas

Government & Politics

Adam is a junior in the Collegium V Honors Program at UTD. He has been actively involved with student government as a senator and parliamentarian and also serves UTD as a student ambassador. He is a member of the Chi Phi fraternity. He is particularly interested in participating in the Bill Archer Fellowship program to gain insight into governmental procedure and hopes to one day serve the nation in public service.

Anca Turcu, UT Dallas

Government & Politics/Economics & Finance

Anca is a junior at UT Dallas who has maintained an outstanding academic record while becoming highly involved in student activities. As the first generation of her family to attend university in the United States, Anca brings with her a unique perspective on her community and its place in the world. She is fluent in 6 languages (Spanish, Italian, French, Romanian, German, and English) and hopes to increase her skills to the level where she can interact fluidly with representatives from around the world in a career in foreign service.

Thomas Charles Turner, UT Austin

Plan II Honors Program/Philosophy

Thomas Charles, or TC, is a senior who has been recognized for his academics in Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He is a student in the prestigious Plan II Honors program and is pursuing a minor in Technology, Literacy, and Culture. Through this program, he has designed and implemented Web site for professors and conducted online research and site testing. He is an active member of Beta Alpha Rho pre-law fraternity and hopes to go on to law school after graduation.

Nirav Ved, UT Dallas

Government & Politics

Nirav is a junior at UTD who is actively involved with the India Association of North Texas and the Indian Pakistani Student Association. He is extremely interested in pursuing a career in intelligence and is hoping that the Bill Archer program will allow him an introduction to the field and will help him to identify mentors. He would like to one day turn around and be a mentor to others with the same interests, particularly students of Indian descent.
